Good morning beauties! After days and days of sickness….how on earth did we make it all through winter being just fine to then get sick exactly on the weekend the first spring vibes came our way?….we are finally all feeling a bit better. My son went back to school today, my daughter’s fever is gone and she’s just staying home to release all that snot here at home rather than at school and I keep fighting getting really sick for the 5th day in a row with just my tea tree essential oil and loads of vitamin C loaded liquids such as this Blood Orange Lemonade or this Immune Booster Juice which by the way you don’t have to be sick or almost sick for to enjoy ;)
I posted this gif on Facebook yesterday and it created some suspense as to what the “red stuff” is. Blood of course!! Blood orange, hahaha.Blood oranges are an amazing power fruit!! They contain the best of both wolds: citrus and berries. Full, full, full of vitamin C and antioxidants and that makes it probably my favorite fruit ever! Unfortunately they are only in season from December to May, so we have to eat tons and tons when they are in season because they’re one of those fruits that are difficult if not impossible to get out of season. I tend to buy kilos and kilos of them whenever I can find them and then, by the end of the week I make them into juice before they go bad. The juice alone (without the fibre) is very very sweet so I water it down with sparking mineral water. In my opinion this lemonade (which only contains a slice of lemons so I can call it LEMONade) doesn’t require any sweetener because of the fruits high level of fructose but if you like it super sweet add a little honey to it. Make sure it’s not a strong-tasting honey or you won’t be able to enjoy the delicious blood orange lemonade taste. By the way, Tasty Bev has started featuring some of my drink recipes as of a couple days ago. A super cool website that features the best drink recipes out on the world wide web. I love that site, it inspired me to make some more drink recipes on the blog because drinking simple water can get boring sometimes I’ll admit. Making fancy shmancy healthy drinks encourages me and my kids to drink more. Cheers!
Blood Orange Lemonade
- 3 blood oranges
- 200 ml sparkling mineral water
- 1 slice lemon (optional)
Juice your blood oranges, if doing so by just squeezing with your hands make sure to remove seeds.
Add ice, sparkling water, and lemons slice to glass.
Pour Juice over it and watch how the "blood" mingles with the water.
Enjoy and say "ahhhh" at the end ;)
