Drinking Blood Orange Lemonade is a refreshing, delicious, and healthy way to bump your Vitamin C intake. No need for added sugar or artificial sweeteners.
Are Blood Oranges Good For You?
Blood oranges are amongst the oranges with the highest Vitamin C content and evidence has shown that they demonstrate potent antioxidant activity.
There also has been found that their juice limits body weight gain, enhances insulin sensitivity, and decreases serum triglycerides and total cholesterol in mice. (source)
Now, I understand we’re not mice but…….there is obviously a possibility this is true for us humans…..guess what I’ll be drinking for the next couple of weeks until summer ;)
When Are They In Season?
Blood orange season is short and runs only from around December to May. So, hurry and get a batch before they’re out of season. They are the most delicious fruit in the world and their juice is incredible!
Once they aren’t in season anymore you can switch over to Lemon Infused Water or Pink Lemonade if water alone doesn’t cut it for you.
I love adding a little extra something to my healthy drinks. It seems to entice me to drink more than just coffee all the time.
How To Make Natural Blood Orange Lemonade
It’s much simpler than you may think. The fruit is naturally sweet, so in my honest opinion, there is absolutely no need to use any kind of added sweeteners in this lemonade.
When making lemonade with lemons or limes you may want to add a tiny bit of honey to counteract acidity. With blood oranges, the added sweetener is not necessary at all.
Simply juice the blood oranges with whatever citrus juicer you have and add the juice to a 3/4 filled glass of sparkling water. Add ice cubes if you like it cold and a slice of lemon if you like it pretty.
Blood Orange Lemonade
Ingredients
